Shannon College of Hotel Management was founded in 1951 and is Ireland’s only dedicated Hotel Management College and one of the world’s leading Hotel Management schools.

It has a global reputation for its quality and success of graduates, with alumni holding senior positions in multinational companies and hotels in every continent. Shannon College is a College of NUI Galway and offers two level 8 business degrees in Hotel Management together with a level 6 International Foundation Business Programme and a level 9 MSc in Business & Hospitality. This year the College will celebrate 69 years of success including a 100 % employment record on graduation day each year for undergraduate students. Through structured work placements in over 120 hotels in 17 countries worldwide, students receive a truly international degree in business and hotel management.

Why Study at Shannon College of Hotel Management?

  • Ireland allows two years of stay-back under the third level graduate scheme. After the successful completion of the studies, a student is permitted to stay 24 months in the country to seek employment.
  • To be eligible for this, a student must possess an Bachelor, Master or PhD degree award granted by a recognized Irish awarding body (Universities/Colleges). A student, during his/her stay-back period can also work for 40 hours/week.
  • Non-EEA students with Stamp 2 permission to remain are allowed to take up casual employment. They can work up to 20 hours a week during term time and up to 40 hours a week in the holidays.  Holiday periods have been standardised – June to September inclusive and from 15 December to 15 January.  Students with stamp 2A permission are not allowed to work.
  • Societies & Sports: Our Clubs & Societies include, Choir, GAA, Soccer, Yoga, Basketball, Badminton, Wine Appreciation, Running Club, Charity Society, Dress Dance Society & Chinese Students & Scholars Association.
  • Accommodation for all students is located in Castle Gardens at Bunratty Village. Each student house has three bedrooms which consist of two en suite rooms and one single room with an adjacent bathroom. The accommodation is fully equipped with all the necessary domestic appliances.
  • All Year 1 students are allocated a place in college organised student housing located in Castle Gardens at Bunratty Village. Three students share each house which comprises three en-suite bedrooms, living/dining room, kitchen and garden.  Bunratty Village is located approximately 8 km from Shannon College and the College organises a bus to transfer students to class each morning.


  • Relevant work experience is a key part of a hotel management degree. Studying at Shannon College provides you with two paid, professional internships with leading hotels in Ireland and worldwide before you graduate. This proves invaluable when you start looking for your dream job in the future.
  • Students earn academic credits for their work placements which are a compulsory element of the degree courses. Shannon College’s Placement Manager administers and monitors the work placement process. Partner hotel companies visit Shannon College to meet and interview students throughout the academic year.


  • The BBS and BComm feature comprehensive placements at operative and trainee management levels. The emphasis on practical training (in Year 1) combined with comprehensive placements is essential for the development of the students’ skills in leadership, teamwork, personal organisation and attention to detail; all of which are vital for their role as future hotel managers.
